Rebeka Myers is a senior majoring in Interior Design at Virginia Commonwealth University and President of the student IIDA board. She is originally from Fredericksburg, Virginia, but moved to Richmond to study at VCU. Rebekah grew up helping her dad with small construction projects around the house, and it is there where she discovered her creativity and passion for design and problem solving. She loves the outdoors and enjoys activities like camping and canoeing. This is Rebekah's second year on the IIDA Student Board and she is looking forward to getting students in touch with the professional design community!
Michael Bienz is a junior of Interior Design at Virginia Commonwealth University. He holds the position of President Elect on the IIDA board at VCU. In the future Michael would like to live and design in different countries around the world. He enjoys new experiences and likes to learn. Michael is excited about his position on the board and intends for members to have a rewarding and productive year.
Raleigh Layne is a senior in the Interior Design department at VCU, and treasurer of the student IIDA board. He has always had an interest in architecture and design, influenced by his family members and their careers in design. After graduating, Raleigh is interested in working in sustainable residential design. Raleigh works two jobs to put himself through school, and though he was born and raised in Richmond, is excited about traveling all over the design world. With a smile and a positive attitude, Raleigh is excited about another year on the IIDA board.
Andrea Manrique is a junior in VCU’s department of Interior Design & holds the position of Vice President of Communications on this year’s IIDA student board. Coming from a rural town, Smithfield, VA, she is seeking southern charm in the Richmond art and design community. Her influences range from fashion to films, folklore, & music culture. In addition to her major, she is also studying textile design in the craft department, where she has focused on using traditional techniques to use textiles spatially. In the future, she hopes to continue material studies and design products as well as interiors. She has recently studied abroad in Europe and is very excited to continue meeting people within the industry through IIDA.
Isolde Uecker is the new PR director for IIDA. She is thrilled to be part of this organization & to be in a position where she can help the student chapter earn the recognition that it deserves. She will do her utmost to convey what IIDA stands for at VCU as she forms alliances & connections for the group. She is currently a senior, and is looking forward to working on her portfolio & advancing in her design career. Most of the time you can find her working at school or her internship. She also enjoys traveling (Ecuador was her latest), dancing, coffee time (cappuccino from Gutenberg…yum) and painting (this is a very late night occurrence, but a lifelong endeavor). Please feel free to come to her with ideas, thoughts or concerns.
Kristen McIlyar is holding the position of events coordinator this year. She is a senior at VCU who loves to design anything that you send her way! She gets a lot of inspiration from her study abroad with Virginia Tech and her surrounding environment. She hopes to one day be working in transportation design specializing in cruise ships. Animal shelter redesigns are also another goal that she hopes to embark on. She loves working with IIDA because you meet so many inspirational people, and it is a great way to create relationships with those in your field!
Kelsey Womack Kelsey Womack was born in Virginia Beach and lived there until she came to Richmond for VCU. She is interested in sustainable commercial design. She especially loves the feeling you get when you walk into a space and have to stop and say "Wow!" In her spare time she paints, gardens, and volunteers for the ONE Campaign.
